Subset space logic with arbitrary announcements
National audienceIn this paper we introduce public announcements to Subset Space Logic (SSL). In order to do this we have to change the original semantics for SSL a little and consider a weaker version of SSL without the cross axiom. We present an axiomatization, prove completeness and show that this logic is PSPACE-complete. Finally, we add the arbitrary announcement modality which expresses “true after any announcement”, prove several semantic results, and show completeness for a Hilbert-style axiomatization of this logic
Surface Bloch waves mediated heat transfer between two photonic crystals
We theoretically investigate the non-radiative heat transfer between two
photonic crystals separated by a small gap in non-equilibrium thermal
situation. We predict that the surface Bloch states coupling supported by these
media can make heat exchanges larger than those measured at the same separation
distance between two massive homogeneous materials made with the elementary
components of photonic crystals. These results could find broad applications in
near-field technologies.Comment: submitted to Applied Physics Letter
CFD Analysis of an Installation Used to Measure the Skin-Friction Penalty of Acoustic Treatments
There is a drive to devise acoustic treatments with reduced skin-friction and therefore fuel-burn penalty for engine nacelles on commercial airplanes. The studies have been experimental, and the effects on skin-friction are deduced from measurements of the pressure drop along a duct. We conduct a detailed CFD analysis of the installation, for two purposes. The first is to predict the effects of the finite size of the rig, including its near-square cross-section and the moderate length of the treated patch; this introduces transient and blockage effects, which have not been included so far in the analysis. In addition, the flow is compressible, so that even with homogeneous surface conditions, it is not homogeneous in the streamwise direction. The second purpose is to extract an effective sand-grain roughness size for a particular liner, which in turn can be used in a CFD analysis of the aircraft, leading to actual predictions of the effect of acoustic treatments on fuel burn in service. The study is entirely based on classical turbulence models, with an appropriate modification for effective roughness effects, rather than directly modeling the liners
Photonic Controlled-Phase Gates Through Rydberg Blockade in Optical Cavities
We propose a novel scheme for high fidelity photonic controlled phase gates
using Rydberg blockade in an ensemble of atoms in an optical cavity. The gate
operation is obtained by first storing a photonic pulse in the ensemble and
then scattering a second pulse from the cavity, resulting in a phase change
depending on whether the first pulse contained a single photon. We show that
the combination of Rydberg blockade and optical cavities effectively enhances
the optical non-linearity created by the strong Rydberg interaction and thereby
reduces the requirements for photonic quantum gates. The resulting gate can be
implemented with cavities of moderate finesse which allows for highly efficient
processing of quantum information encoded in photons. As a particular example
of this, we show how the gate can be employed to increase the communication
rate of quantum repeaters based on atomic ensembles.Comment: main manuscript 5 pages with 11 pages of supplementary informatio
